Runners, walkers and Reds fans can still register
for June 3 “Jones Fish Redlegs Run for Home” 5K

CINCINNATI, Ohio – The sixth-annual “Jones Fish Redlegs Run for Home,” a 5K run, walk and children’s event, takes place this Sunday, June 3, 2007, at 9 a.m. Registration is $30. Event partners include Jones Fish Hatcheries, CareerBuilder.com, Cintas, Fleet Feet Sports, National City, KISS FM and 700WLW.

More than 2,000 participants are expected on Sunday. In five years, the race has featured more than 8,000 participants and has generated more than $125,000 for the Reds Community Fund.

Participants can register the morning of the race, beginning at 7 a.m. at Pete Rose Way and Broadway. All events include a T-shirt, one View Level ticket voucher for the Reds-Angels game on June 12 and a goody bag.

The 5K (3.1-mile) course begins on Mehring Way and winds through downtown Cincinnati, culminating inside Great American Ball Park near home plate.

Kids 10 and younger can register for the “Gapper’s Kids Fun Run,” which circles the warning track at Great American Ball Park beginning at 10:15 a.m. A new feature for kids 12 and younger is the “One Mile Kids Run,” beginning at 9:30 a.m. Registration is $15 for the One Mile Kids Run and just $10 for the Gapper’s Kids Fun Run.

Another new feature is the CareerBuilder.com Corporate Challenge. For $100, teams of four can compete for the best cumulative time and the opportunity to be recognized on the field prior to the June 12 Reds-Angels game.

Official ChampionChip timing will be featured again this year, with all runners and walkers receiving their official race times. Finishing times will be posted on http://www.redscommunityfund.com/ by Sunday afternoon.

Prizes will be awarded to the top three male and female finishers in 12 different age categories. The top five overall male and female runners, along with the overall corporate challenge group, will be recognized prior to the June 12 Reds-Angels game at Great American Ball Park. The male and female overall winners will have the opportunity to throw a ceremonial first pitch. Prizes are being provided by Trophy Awards.

Since Rheal Cormier retired for the Braves AAA, are the Reds still on the hook for his salary this year and next?

Yes. They released him, so they were on the hook for the $2 million and change. (I'd like the change from $2 million, by the way).
