You be the judge

Tonight will be a good chance for those of you in the Great White North to get a good look at two pitchers competing for the rotation. Homer Bailey will be followed by Edinson Volquez. The game is on FSN Ohio. I think you get a better look at a pitcher's stuff on TV.

I'll be curious to the read your comments -- not that isn't always the case.

Bailey will likely face tougher hitters because the stars are only playing four or five innings at this point. First pitch vs. The Yankees is 7:15.

No word on cuts yet.

I'm interested in seeing if Homer has improved from last year and to see how hitters react to Volquez. But, I really wish Cueto was pitching...I've heard alot...but not seen.

I beg to differ about being able to judge a pitcher better on TV. The only effective way to judge players is sitting at the ballpark, with your own snacks and water that you brought with you, next to your signifcant other (ideally an RN), after driving from your home that is within an acceptable radius from the ballpark.

John,
I was down in Sarasota and St. Pete for a couple games this weekend and I have decided this is how I would love the roster to shake down. What do you think?

Harang
Arroyo
Cueto
Fogg/Belisle
Bailey

Cordero
Burton
Weathers
Volquez
Affeldt
Fogg/Belisle
Stanton (I don't want this, but it will happen. I'd prefer Bray)

Hopper
Keppinger
Jr.
Phillips
Dunn
Edwin
Joey V
Javy/Bako (Assuming Ross is on the DL to start)

Javy/Bako
Castro
Freel/Patterson
Hatteberg
Right handed bat off the bench TBD

Thoughts?

Thanks,
Joel

I believe that was an impostor actually.

The only way to judge a pitcher's stuff is to sit behind home plate. There are only a limited number of seats to do this. The TV camera is one but even that doesn't catch it all. That is why Dusty asks umpires. A guy with a bottle of water sitting on the third base line is just guessing.

Jeff Keppinger is the best shortstop in MLB history. Much better than ripken. Ernie Banks, A-rod, ozzie smith? None can compare to Kepp both offensively and defensively. Nurse Julie agrees and she knows more about baseball than any of you here because we attend lots of games where we bring our own water.

I can't believe the Reds dropped Cantu. He was better than Lou Gehrig. And Freel makes Rickey Henderson Look like Stephen Hawking.

The only thing worse than reading a certain person's views on this blog are reading those who ridicule him and use his identity. Get a life.
On another note, here's hoping Bailey and Volquez pitch well tonight, I really want these young guys with good stuff in the rotation over guys that we already know what to expect, which isn't all that special.

Joel,

I rather like your rotation and lineup. I would rather see someone else on the team other than Castro on the bench. Hopefully someone would could serve as a defensive replacement and actually pinchhit.

I bet you though that Cueto doesn't start the year in Cincy (although he should) and that Belisle will definitely be in the rotation. I think Belisle will have a better year this season and will be a solid starter for us but his lack of control in the spring so far has me concerned. Fogg/Belisle/Afeldt/Volquez should all be able/willing to start or come in out of the pen. If so this team will be in much better shape than last year.

I hope Bailey has a good game tonight, I'm glad we get a chance to see him and Volquez on the tube.

I can't wait to see these guys pitch tonight. I'm wondering how Bailey is dealing with not being the Golden Prodigy anymore (Cueto). Hopefully it will fire him up for better things.

Mr. Fay, I get to as many Louisville games in a season as I do Reds games and have been thinking whoever doesn't make the staff will be with the Bats. Are the Reds seriously considering using any of the fab three in the bullpen with the big club if they don't make the rotation?

when are the cuts coming? you would figure they would want to start trimming down to get a good look at those that they are on the fence about...

Watch out for the pink slip Mr. Coutlangus.

Redszone is saying that 'Rule Fiver" Sergio Valuenzeula was returned to the Braves. Also that Ramon Ramirez sent to minor league camp.

John, there must be more moves as well. Do you know what they are?
