Friday's starter

The Reds still are listing TBA for Friday's starter. Jerry Narron said it will be Bobby Livington, Victor Santos or "someone at Louisville."

The someone at Louisville is probably Phil Dumatrait. Homer Bailey pitched yesterday, so he'd be on short rest Friday.

Bailey's numbers (5-1, 1.89 ERA, 32 hits in 52 1/3 innings) say he's dominating at AAA. Dumatrait's numbers (5-3, 3.08, 48 hits in 52 2/3 innings) are good but not in Bailey's class.

Can someone please tell me why they would not bring up their best pitcher???

It seems there is always at least one other player posting better numbers at AAA when they bring someone up. What's the logic with that?

They always say it's scouting as much as numbers. But I don't get it. It's a pretty safe bet that no one on the Reds staff -- except maybe Aaron Harang -- would put up the kind of numbers at Triple-A that Bailey has.

I've been in the minority as far as wanting to bring Bailey up but I think he's finally ready now and I believe it's the kind of move that would really give the team a boost. Earlier in the year I was concerned about Bailey's pitch count and the number of BB's he'd been giving up but he's really done a good job of going further in the game and he's cut his walks down as well. I don't know if there is anything more for him to prove in Louisville. How about we bring him up on June 16th against Texas and see what he can do? If the Reds' schedule plays itself out would that be the next date we'd need our 5th starter? I thinking waiting until a home stand would really give the fans a reason to keep coming out (and believe me we need a reason). Good win last night by the way, it was good to see Weathers hang in there and the defense pick him up at the end. We all know that losing is contageous and so is winning. Here's hoping we can ride this momentum and that our two aces can bounce back from the rough outings they had last time out and help carry this team. On a negative note, the middle of the lineup needs to be more consistent. I believe they went O-fer last night. When will Hamilton liking be back with the Reds?
