Wow! Coffey optioned

From the Reds:

"The Reds selected from Louisville the contract of RHP Homer Bailey...he will wear #34 in his Major League debut as tonight's starting pitcher.

"RHP Todd Coffey was optioned to Louisville."

That's a bit of a shocker. Marcus McBeth really must of showed them something in that one outing.

Coffey had no idea this was going to happen. I saw him pick up a "Louisville Bats" bag when he was leaving last night.

I said, "Still got the bag, huh?"

He said, "The only good thing about this is bag is holds a lot of stuff. I'm getting rid it of when when I get back."

If Jared Burton wasn't a Rule 5 player, there's no way Coffey's optioned.

By keeping Burton, again, this is perhaps the clearest message yet that the organization is now turning the tables on this season and eyeballing the future.

Why not put Burton on the "DL" so he can rehab? I guys this goes to show what Krivsky thinks of Coffey.

Do you think Jared Burton (AKA. Joe Valentine) is part of the Reds future?

If you would have told me that a relief pitcher was optioned and it wasn't McBeth, I would have guessed Majewski.

Coutlangus hasn't been sharp lately. Stanton has been awful. McBeth hasn't been used. Burton flat out just isn't ready to pitch in the majors, and Narron doesn't use him.

Coffey? First among them to go? I don't see it.

I agree with Mr Redlegs. Let's aim to the future, this year the best we can do is enjoy the wins when they come, watch the younger guys mature and gain experience. When Sept rolls around enjoy it if we can knock out some contending teams. Look at the big picture, it starts tonite with Homer!

Didnt they recently sign an extention with Coffey??? Why? He has proven that he cant close games and now, he has proven that he cant protect games either....McBeth is the real deal...throws strikes, and has a certain 'calmness' about him...every thing that I have heard about him says that he doesnt get rattled...

It's way past time to offer Jared Burton back to the A's. The Reds have destroyed the kid's confidence, the least that they should do is show a little class and and not destroy his career too!

this is the best move yet, coffey hasn't produced all year and even last year. Give the younger guys a shot, instead of watching coffey give up walks and home runs every night.
