Reds Insider From news of the day to news of the weird, John Fay provides a glimpse of what it’s like to cover the Cincinnati Reds
John Fay has been the Reds beat writer for the Enquirer since 2001. Prior to that, he served in a variety of roles for the Enquirer: backup Reds writer, UC beat writer, backup Bengals writer and as a general assignment reporter. He is a Cincinnati native and a graduate of Elder High School and the University of Dayton.
Kevin Kelly reports that Kirk Saarloos is starting for Lousville tonight. The Bats pulled Phil Dumatrait back from his start. Whether that means anything related to Arroyo remains to be seen.
Hmmm.... We'd have almost exclusively a triple A starting rotation. Harang (when he returns), Belisle (if he gets another start), Livingston, Ramirez, Dumatrait.
If Arroyo's gone, do you see Homer taking Belisle's spot in the rotation with MB as a long reliever?
If they trade Arroyo they're essentially conceding the '08 season as well. There's a huge difference between filling in the bottom three spots in your rotation with the best in your organization and only having one good, seasoned pitcher.
Someone on the other blog reported that the Padres have offered 1B Kyle Blanks for Adam Dunn..... Blanks is not listed with a team on Milb.com anymore...
When you said Dumatrait was pulled from his start (possible callup)... HE is NOT listed on a minor league team when you search his name on Milb.com either............
If you search his name on mlb.com he is listed under the reds. I don't know if he was always listed with them or if the listing coincides with his not being listed with a team on Milb.com
We've got two TBA's starting games for us in the next 5 days, I don't think we can read too much into one of our AAA pitchers being pulled back from his start.
I would have to say that Krivsky is entirely out of his mind if he does this deal with the Braves. We need bullpen help, not someone that could be "potentially" good in the future in JoJo Reyes.
Escobar is fine and dandy...but it still doesn't make any sense when we just acquired Jorge Cantu. How many 3B/SS/2B players do we need, anyhow?

Saarloos was listed as the probable starter for tonight's game on the Bats website around lunchtime.

John, now that the deadline is passed, how long does it usually take for us to get word of the deals that have happened?

He's also listed as Current Status: Minor Leagues when you go into his profile.
