It's over: Reds 5, Cardinals 4

David Weathers pitched the ninth for his 30th save. It was a bit scary.

The ninth started with an Albert Pujols' double and a Jim Edmonds' RBI single. Ryan Ludwick flied out to the warning track in left. Yadier Molina flied out harmlessly to center. Rick Ankiel flied out to right.

Aaron Harang's line: 7 ip, 3 runs, 3 hits, 2 walks, 5 strikes. He only threw 89 pitches. Jared Burton pitched a scoreless eighth.

I believe that David Weathers has been living on borrowed time this entire year. It's often very nerve-wracking when he comes into the game in the 9th inning with either a 1 or 2 run lead. Even though he has alot of saves, he also has 4 or 5 blown saves plus he has earned the "loss" in 4 or 5 games. This means he has accounted for anywhere from 5-10 of the Reds losses this year. There are several occasions where he has given up a run or two in the ninth inning and still been credited with a save, even though I would be more apt to name it a "luck out". I believe that next year the Reds should look at someone else for the closer role. Burton, perhaps? Any other possibilities based on what we have seen this season?

Weathers has been pretty good overall. That said, burton will get a try next year is my guess.

for all that Stormy does wrong i think he does quite a bit right...to say that he has been are most reliable guy out of our bullpen is scary, but that seems to be the case...I dont really think burton will have a chance for the closer job, although I wouldnt mind it, weathers closing and burton setting up seems like the most likely possibility to me...
