Reds 9, Pirates 7

It was a wild day at McKechnie Field. The Reds hit five home runs and made five errors in a 9-7 win over the Pirates in the Reds' spring opener. The game ended with a Pirate runner getting thrown out by center fielder Jerry Gil at the plate. The Reds also signed a potential closer in Dustin Hermanson. Adam Dunn, Brandon Phillips, Mark Bellhorn, Jeff Keppinger and Josh Hamilton homered. Hamilton might still be rolling. "He's a special player," Reds manager Jerry Narron said. "We're going to give him a chance." Narron was not happy with the way his team kicked and threw the ball around. "I'm disappointed with the defense," he said. "It's something we've stressed."

Was it Gil who made the throw in? Marty said it was Denorfia.

I didn't know Gil even played CF...

Not to worried about the "D" this early on. I know it was a problem all last year, but lets wait until we get rolling in April when the regulars are out there consistently.

Asked Jerry Narron. He said was Gil. Then a moment later said, "If Marty said it was Denorfia, it was Denorfia." Jerry's gag aside, it was Gil. He does play center, in fact, he considers it his favorite position. I learned that in gathering info for "Meet the Reds."

Thank you! You've settled a burning debate on another blog. ;-)

And it looks like Gil is playing CF tonight...
