Reds Insider From news of the day to news of the weird, John Fay provides a glimpse of what it’s like to cover the Cincinnati Reds
John Fay has been the Reds beat writer for the Enquirer since 2001. Prior to that, he served in a variety of roles for the Enquirer: backup Reds writer, UC beat writer, backup Bengals writer and as a general assignment reporter. He is a Cincinnati native and a graduate of Elder High School and the University of Dayton.
Get him in uniform and out on the field. He is better than Coats,Ellison,Bellhorn! Should have been here as soon as Jr went down and Hamilton had no chance of returning this year.
I think it's great the Reds are going to recognize him in a ceremony.
Congratulations Jay. And Jay, thank you for being great with the fans. You took time at a Bats game to come over and meet fans and sign autographs. Your fans appreciate your kindness.
Congrats, Jay. And good luck escaping this organization. Maybe if you hit 26 Home Runs in 336 At-Bats they'll trade you to a contender for a lifetime 4.00+ ERA Pitcher?
Otherwise, bring your clothespins.
That is, if you don't get marooned in Triple A for 2 more years while you learn what a really crummy MLB operation awaits you at GABP.
Hey Cubs fan you're an idiot. Castellini you;re the worst owner in REDS history. So this is CHampionship Baseball? John this team is pathetic. I've been a fan since 1974. And I am seriously sick to stomach about these last 7 losing seasons. I don't see it getting any better in 08 either. Yes Wayne you're an arrogant cuss also.
Castelini's the worst owner ever? Have you forgotten his predecessor? Some people just get so caught up in complaining they lose sight of the big picture. Yes, things are bad. But they're not dire. 1982! That was dire. Don't make such a fuss about the ice maker not working when the house is on fire
Saying "hey Cubs fan you're an idiot" is a bit redundant.
If the Reds had Cubs money...I can't help but think they'd win the central every time.
I just wonder which lame excuse shall be made by the Cubs when they get eliminated again. Will it be a stupid curse? Will it be a fan catching a ball? Who knows!
As far as Jay Bruce goes...congrats to him obviously and may he have great luck when he joins the ballclub sometime next season.
Hopefully, this will be the first of many recognitions for the kid. He seems to have a bright future, I just hope he has thick skin! He will be loved around here until he signs that first big deal, then, if the Reds don't win...the 'fans' will be clammering for his demise!!
Thanks for putting up with all of us this year John! I enjoy the Insider and your articles!
When someone makes as idiotic a comment as : "This might be the worst franchise in all of sports.", they should be required to post with a name. Although, I doubt anyone would say that if they had to own up to it.
Most people who complain about the "worst franchise" or "why follow such a pathetic team" are contradicting themselves by reading and posting about the Reds. Which in turn shows how stupid and unaware they are of their stupidity. Thanks to all those that do that because it keeps me laughing at you.
P.S I typed slowly so those people could follow along!
2:02 AM Anonymous said... Fay, you're such a censoring jerk.
I post 99 percent of cooments. I don't post stuff I considered to be bad taste, libelous, or something a sixth grader might say to another on a playground.
One added note: I moderate a lot of comments on my iphone. There's a chance I accidently hit reject or a comment or two instead of publish. If that's the case, I apologize.
You post plenty of comments that are utterly immature, what are you talking about? The way the Reds are run, they deserve to be called things sixth graders might call each other.

This might be the worst franchise in all of sports. What a joke. I feel sorry for anyone that has to cover this mess.

Which should tell you something about the things I don't post.
