I'm out, E's in

I'm handing the keys to blog over to John Erardi for a few days.

I've said many times that the worst part of this job is being away from home for six straight weeks during spring training. It's particularly hard when you feel like you should be home.

Now is one of those times for me. My older brother, Tim, is in the late stages of a long battle of cancer. I simply felt like I couldn't wait until Friday to go home. I've enjoyed the blog this spring. Hopefully, I'll be blogging away on Opening Day.

john,

my thoughts are with you and your brother. in the last few years, i have lost a couple of close family members to cancer and i can tell you one thing: without a doubt, the best thing you can do for your brother is be there for him (and the rest of your family) as much as you can.

John...sorry about your brother...hope things turn out ok...I just lost my father to cancer last Monday...he was diagnosed about a month ago before he died with bone cancer...like someone else on here said, the best thing you can do is be there and spend more time with them and your family. My thoughts and prayers go out to you and your brother in this trying time.
