John,
Will Mondays game still be on TV? And by the way I like this lineup... Everyone gave it to Patterson after opening day. I mean come on guys to played good D and put the ball in play every time. Reds Fans get off of his back it is one game.... John love the blog....
I suspected that Votto would be in there today. Good idea to let him get settled at bit.
Hopefully Bako is in there just as a message to Valentin. Don't want to see much of him in the starting line-up. But a good move today, if that is Baker's thinking.
ST CSA
Is Valentin being disciplined or will Bako catch Arroyo until Ross comes back? Not sure if it makes a big difference but Bako has 5 at bats against Haren in his career, Javier zero.
Also, has it been announced which player the Reds are getting for the Salmon trade?
Is Bako starting as a punishment to Valentin or is it just part of the longstanding trend that Valentin rarely catches Arroyo?
Do you think Patterson will play Thursday against the lefty? Or will Baker go with Freel/Hopper?
Seriously, what is up with Dusty and Patterson? Patterson must have some pictures of Dusty... Here's a crazy idea, bat someone at leadoff that can actually get on base.
Monday's game is not on TV.
Valentin is not being punished. Bako throws better, and Arizona likes to run. Baker didn't think the D-Backs would run Monday because it was so wet.
I realize I am putting a lot of stock in spring training's results, but looking at the list of the rotation, it looks SO MUCH better than it did last year. I acutally feel like everyone of the starting pitchers give us an opportunity to win.....Wow, I have really have drank the kool-aid or been brain washed.
I am always amazed by Reds fans. Imagine if you will a player who was labeled a can't miss prospect, with amazing defensive skills who was rushed to the majors and struggled at the plate. He was confused about being a power hitter or a speed guy and his numbers suffered in both areas. When he was acquired, fans and media hated the decision, after all we had 2 guys on the roster who played that position already. I',m talking about Patterson right? Nope I was talking about Brandon Phillips. Give Patterson a chance, perhaps a change of scenery was all he needed to blossom into the star he looked to be when he was drafted 3rd overall. It happens, ask Phillips.
I thought Arroyo was supposed to pitch today(thursday) not Cueto. Did they move him to a Monday start?
sorry. i thought today was thursday my fault.
Phillips is not a star yet unless you're looking in the wrong columns. He needs to lay off of the junk in order to put up star numbers. That being the case, guys who play in the league for 8 years and can't work a walk aren't going to suddenly have some light come on that makes them a good hitter. Speed alone doesn't make you a good candidate to lead off.
Well said James.
Corey is a player, otherwise we wouldn't have got him.
He is perfect for what we needed.
A lefty leadoff.
Good CF defense.
An amazing upside.
We are going to be really good this year, and Corey will be a part of it.
That being said, I would love to see Hopp leadoff against the lefty tomorrow.
Redlegs!!!
Great comment, James! Come on people, give Patterson a chance! How many games have we played this year...oh yeah...ONE!
Brandon Phillips his 30 home runs last year. He also stole 32 bases. He also led all NL second basemen in fielding percentage. He also hit a more than respectful .287.
I think that counts as being a 'star.'
