More minor matters

Todd Frazier hit another home run for Dayton tonight, his fourth. He and Brandon Waring have been tearing it up for the Dragons. Frazier had three hits tonight, Waring two. Frazier is hitting .476 with a 1.811 OPS. Waring is hitting .458 with a 1.411 OPS. It's only seven games but . . .

Both were All-Americans last year in college -- Frazier at Rutgers and Waring at Wofford. They could be on the fast track.

David Ross is back in the lineup for Sarasota.

Looks like Frazier & Waring to go to Sarasota!

Guess who the leading hitters are in Sarasota and what positions they play!!
Juan Franciso-.367 ,Third Base, tonight hit one of the longest Hr ever hit at Ed Smith. For those familiar with E.S., it cleared the center field scoreboard and was last seen going over Arcadia!!!!
Chris Valaika SS. is hitting .367 after getting two more hits tonight.
Neither are near ready to go to Chatt.. So those who who have watched these guys plus Waring and Frazier....who moves to other positions...(wouldn't it be nice if one could take a liking to catching)

Just got back from Scranton. Bats beat the SWB-Yankees severely about the head and neck. Bats 11, Yankees 0.

Guys sitting behind me were heckling the Bats players. They were yelling, "32, you suck!!!!" (To Jay Bruce. They didn't know him from Adam, they were just heckling the laundry.)

I finally turned around and said, "That's the best prospect in baseball you're talking about."

Shortly afterwards, Colina hit a home run (the only one of the night). They tapped me on the shoulder and said, "I thought you said Bruce was the bad-ass." :-D

I watched Francisco a couple of times in Dayton last year. Those who are critical of EE at 3rd, had better close their eyes. The games I saw, he played third with boxing gloves. I think they should switch him to first. He can hit the hell out of the ball.

fkdrad, I saw Francisco in spring training and that kid sure can hit. My question, can he field his position, have you seen his play at 3B?

what pos do these guys play?

Today's game is as big as a game could be this early. The Brew crew was 5 and 1 when Redlegs came to town, if Cincy can take this series it could make the guys feel like a real contender.

They can then take that attitude into Chicago, and also be feeling good about the MIL series in Cincy.

These next 10 games will be about as fun as Reds baseball has been in over a year, (if it goes well)and will affect attitude and morale for weeks to come.

GO REDS!

PS Kerry Wood as closer not going too well right now! :)

Over at BaseballMusings.com you can run a "lineup analysis" by entering 9 players' OBPs and SLGs. I entered the Reds starting 9 and it computed that Patterson is not a good choice for leadoff (it liked Kepp there) and said that we should hit the pitcher 8th. Here's the link to the analysis:

Hey john, i was wondering how long you think it could be until Frazier could make an impact on the reds. I know he is only in his first full season as a pro, but I feel he could raise through the ranks quickly.

thank you to folks that cover the minors... we need un-biased assessment of the talent there. an I "think" that things are-a-changin' in the old game....biased it is...but, the REDS are back... it takes a Fan many years to understand that the Minors are were the Champs come from... that that a good Poker player that can deal the cards.... no pun intended....mp

hey john,
i have been trying to listen to the reds games on 700 wlw online down here in NC, and they have all the pre game stuff and then switch to some talk radio. do you know what the deal with that is and if I will be able to listen to today's game?

Are there any lingering questions about Krivdawgs ability to completely rebuild a farm system? I didn't think so.

Stud young arms (Bailey learning how to be a pitcher, not a thrower, Maloney, Roenicke, et al.), our first real #1 catcher in almost 20 years, 7 legit SS prospects, oh yeah Jay friggin Bruce, and spooky good AA and A teams.

We're stacked for years to come! Watch out you goofy Cubs and Cards fans, the Big Red Machine is humming again!

todays game is not that big nor will it be a determiner of the rest of the season

calm down and just enjoy the team

I think they will have a slightly better year than the last

krivsky has participated in rebuilding the minor league system along with others..he has not rebuilt this system..the process started before he came onboard

and has been the case with bailey..ya just dont know

team is far from being a Big Red Machine

nc fan. you have to buy one of the packages on major league dot com and listen on your computer.... or get satellite radio.

I agree Jack, this is not the Big Red Machine...

This team has better pitching. 32 earned runs in 10 games (includes the 1 today).

Glad our bull pen has not improved or our pitching might be good. Is 3.2 ERA good Jack?
