Hall of Fame interest

A version of this will appear in tomorrow's paper, but just wanted to share this cool spring training moment before heading back to Sarasota.

Brandon Phillips was taking batting practice before tonight's game at Legends Field when a legend in pinstripes came walking up to him. The man? Hall of Fame outfielder Reggie Jackson, who is now a member of the Yankees' special advisory group.

Phillips certainly wasn't expecting the encounter, and couldn't stop smiling when talking about it after the fact. It clearly meant a lot to him.

“He told me to keep up the good work and to believe in myself,” Phillips said. “He also said to go out there and just play the game the best way I know how and don’t ever take this game for granted.”

He continued....

“Everything he said to me was nice,” Phillips said. “I appreciate it coming from him. My eyes and ears were wide open. I appreciate everything he said to me. Everything was good. Maybe I can talk to him again.”

That's all from Tampa. Fay will be back and blogging away tomorrow.
