Not a good start (updated version)

Paul Wilson got beat around beat pretty good in his first start (second outing) of the spring. He went 2 2/3 innings. He allowed five runs or five hits. He walked three and struck out three.

Short explanation: "I got my ass kicked."

Long explanation: "“I was all over the place, walking guys, not very good command, rushing things, all kind of things. I felt good. But it’s not good enough. You’ve got to make pitches and get ahead. I didn’t do any of that today. It comes and goes. It’s just relearning everything again."comes and goes. I relearning how to be Paul Wilson."

As for the game: Wilson left with the Reds down 5-0. Adam Dunn singled in two runs in the third. Brandon Phillips hit a two-run homer -- his third HR in three games this spring -- in the fourth to make it 5-4. But Kirk Saarloos gave up a two-run homer to Carlos Ruiz in the fifth. Bill Bray was impressive in a 1-2-3, 2-k sixth.

Wilson's problem was he all over the place. He walked Jimmy Rollins. Gave up hits to Shane Victorino and Chase Utley to load the bases in the first. He got Karim Garcia to pop out. But Greg Hobbs gota run with sacrifice fly, and Wes Helms doubled in two more. Phillies, 3-0, Reds coming to bat.

You may be listening to the Bad Boy, aka, Steve Stewart via the web. Commercial free, baseball by the way.

Reds threatened in the first. Brandon Phillips led off with a single, and Josh Hamilton followed with yet another hit. But the rally fizzled -- Edwin Encarnacion fielder's choice, Adam Dunn strikeout, Javy Valentin flyout.

More trouble for Wilson is the second. He walked Rollins with two outs. Rollnis stole second, although Alex Gonzalez thought he got him with swipe tag. Victorino got Rollins in with a single, making it 4-0.

Wilson was supposed to go three. He struck out the first two hitters, but couldn't close the deal. After Wilson gave up three straight hits, Kirk Saarloos came on to get the final out.

Is that "The Bad Boy" doing the Internet-only brodcast of today's game on MLB Gameday Audio?

Brandon Phillips was such a great pick up last year and it looks like he's geared for another fantastic season. Hopefully this year he won't get slighted from the All Star. If he keeps up this show off power, he will be right up there with Utley! How long is he under contract??

John,

Is that all the Bad Boy is doing now? I know he's not the most passionate-sounding broadcaster out there, but I respect the guy for his effort.

Is Hamilton out of the game? Did he get injured or are they just resting him?

Bad Boy is also doing some video work for the club and working the Speaker's Bureau. Hamilton is fine. The guy was on pace to set Grapefruit League record for at-bats. They're just giving some innings off.

On Phillips: The Reds control him for at least three more years before he can become a free agent.

"I'm relearning how to be Paul Wilson"... is that supposed to be a good thing?

I'd take the Bad Boy over George Grande anyday.

Key to Wilson is whether or not he can go back out next few times and pitch without pain. If he can do that, and his velocity is decent, he can come back-even if he has to start the year in Louisville.

Could be another feel good story.
