Reds win 6-1

Reds won their second straight, beating the Pirates 6-1 on a cold, cold night at on the river.

Matt Belisle was excellent. "First time I've pitched in snow flurries," he said.

His line: 6 IP, 4 hits, 1 runs, 1 walk, 6 strikeouts. He threw 105 pitches, 73 for strikes. He was pretty consistently hitting 93 on the scoreboard gun. He retired 14 in a row in one stretch.

"That's a beautiful thing when it 30 degrees," Jeff Conine said.

Reds' starters are 2-1 with a 2.39 ERA after four starts.

You've got to like Belisle. He's smart, aggressive and he's got good stuff. He and Kyle Lohse are key. My guess is if they have good years, the Reds will be a contender.

"Everyone knows what we're going to get from the first two (Aaron Harang and Bronson Arroyo)," Jerry Narron said. "We need some other guys to step up."

Brandon Phillips (solo) and Conine (three-run) homered to provide more than enough offense for Belisle and the bullpen. The bullpen has a streak of 6 2/3 hitless innings going.

Reminder: Saturday's game is at 1:05 p.m. It was changed because of the weather.

Thanks John! Gotta be impressed with Saarloos. His sinker ball is nasty!

John,

I shouldn't be, but I was impressed with the way Junior hustled out the infield hit. It was obviously a big play in the game and given his age and the cold weather, I didn't know if he could get it into the next gear. He played a good game and I hope he gets back to 100%. I do think if he has a good year and the pitching is good that we may have a shot a post season. Go Reds.
