Reds 5, Cubs 2

Good day for the Redlegs. Quality start from Kyle Lohse. Two-out, RBI singles from Edwin Encarnacion and Jeff Conine. Five relievers combined for 2 2/3 hitless innings. Two-run bomb from Scott Hatteberg in the ninth to bust it open.

All added up to a 5-2 win over the Cubbies.

The crowd of 25,070 tells me that the Red are going to draw fairly well. It was colder than a witch’s foot out there.

Sounds like Eric Milton will start Sunday.

Going to be interesting to see if Victor Santos can keep it up. He could be a huge find. Saw one pitch last night at 94 mph.

very impressed with the bullpen, let's just hope that we can stay healthy and rested early. harang, arroyo, and lohse all strong, let's hope 4 and 5 can do their job.

I was at the game and there were no more than 17-18,000 people in the stands. The 25,000 they claimed for attendance was those who purcahsed tickets, which I bet those 8,000 or so that didn't show up only had ticket because of the Power Packs they Reds forced on us fans to buy.

I can see Coutlangus to Louisville for Milton on Sunday. But who for Bray when he is ready? Santos in my opinion must pitch himself off the roster. Burton deserves a 2nd & 3rd chance. I agree with you, El Banque Presidente, that Moeller is only temporary until Hopper, Gil or Keppinger is ready. It does seem like the Reds have some decent pitching depth.

am I totally crazy, or does the NL count gate attendance the AL count paid attendance?

NL counts paid. Probably wasn't 25,000 there today. But that's the tickets sold.

Quite the good marketing move on the Reds part.

Last year's game 3 Business Day Special drew less than 14,000. So the Reds added another 11,000 to their tickets sold by including them in the Power Stacks package.

Do players still pick their at bat songs? Griffey had that English girl named "Lady Sovereign" "Love me or hate me, it's still an obsession" . I'd say he's the one who is obsessed. Know any stories about players and their songs?

Geez, I'm having a flashback. Redlegs? The black overtones gone from the unis? A trip back in time reflecting the new ownership? I like the unis a lot-more red on the Reds. I think the "Redlegs" thing started back in the commie scare days of the '50s. I remember a preacher asking them to change the name from Reds before the '61 series to avoid a "Reds pound Yanks" headline. Didn't happen, Yankees in 5, darn it.
I've prayed for pitching for 40 years- maybe we got it. Saarloos for closer.
