Prior to that, he served in a variety of roles for the Enquirer: backup Reds writer, UC beat writer, backup Bengals writer and as a general assignment reporter. He is a Cincinnati native and a graduate of Elder High School and the University of Dayton.

Reds win, 7-5

The Reds won their third consecutive game Saturday, 7-5 against the Pirates, to assure a winning season-opening homestand.

Aaron Harang (2-0) allowed five earned runs over 5-2/3 innings, striking out six and walking one. Jon Coutlangus, Todd Coffey, Rheal Cormier, Kirk Saarloos and David Weathers combined to allow just one hit the rest of the way. Weathers picked up a save.

Third baseman Edwin Encarnacion gave the Reds the lead with a two-run single in the fourth inning that made it 6-4. He finished with three hits and a walk.

Left fielder Adam Dunn had a two-run homer in the first. Shortstop Alex Gonzalez had a run-scoring single in the first. First baseman Scott Hatteberg drove in the Reds' seventh run with a single in the sixth.

The Reds finished with 11 hits. Attendance was 15,825.

You think Hamilton might get a start tomorrow afternoon? I know he's been under the weather for a couple of days but if he's ready to go I'd think it's time for him to start. He was going to get a start a day or two ago anyway but he had to rid himself of the "flu bug"....
