Today's lineup

Here's the lineup against the Twins today:

Hopper CF
Freel LF
BPhillips 2B
Encarnacion 3B
Bruce RF
APhillips 1B
Castro SS
Valentin C
Votto DH

It's 42 degrees here. They're giving wind-chill warnings. Could feel like it's in the 30s. Get out the parkas. Floridians tend to get a little worked up about a cold snap.

Ken Griffey Jr. came into Dusty Baker's office this morning.

“Griff’s wondering why he’s not playing,” Baker said. “He said, ‘I’m ready.’ One more day, Dude.”

Baker isn't concerned about Griffey's bat getting ready.

“I ain’t worried about him hitting," Baker said. "He’s going to hit forever. It’s just a matter of how his legs feel. If his legs are OK, everything else is OK. I’m trying to give him some time to get his legs underneath him. He’s been running good. I’m trying to pace it properly. Him and (Adam) Dunn both. Let them get a lot of work. It’s a short spring. It’s a short time between the time they get here and the game’s start.

“The young guys are ready. It doesn’t take them as long to get in shape.”
"It gives me a chance to look at (Jerry) Gil and (Chris) Dickerson. Gil's looking great. Dickerson's looking better. They both can run and they both have outstanding throwing arms."

John:
Yes, we Floridians do feel it is cold ,but you neglected to say that there is not a cloud in the sky and the SUN is as bright as can be!!!with only a slight breeze.
(Maybe 60 degrees by game time??and at is 17 in cincy with snow on the way...).
Gil and Dickerson will be fun to watch this spring. Gil made an impression with his long bp home runs last yr. , they both must cut down on stikeouts!!!

I'd like to see what Bruce can do in CF. We already know what Freel can do, and it isn't the prettiest.

Oops, I see that Hopper is in CF today. It's a better option than Freel but Bruce needs to get some time there soon.

McCoy wrote today that Baker had Billy DeMars giving Votto a batting tip. What's with that? The Reds are paying a hitting coach. He can't get it done?

Too bad neither one can hit a lick. Tools, tools, toolsy tools.

Does anyone know what happened to Marcus McBeth?

Anyone else get the feeling that unless things change Bruce will definitely be in AAA to start the year? I just think that if right now Dusty was planning on having him with Cincy he would be playing CF to see if he can handle that transistion. Unless he just plans on moving Griff back to CF??? Big Griffey supporter but I don't think that would be good.....

McBeth will pitch tomorrow.

Bruce has played more center than anywhere else.

Dusty was using Billy DeMars to stress a point with Votto.

Last time I checked Adam Dunn was still one of the young guys. Let them play Baker, stop the special treatment.

Last time I checked Dunn was coming off a knee injury. Maybe, just maybe Dusty is trying to have him take it slow for now?
