Reds win 9-8

Reds won 9-8. The winning run scored on a perfect squeeze by Chad Moeller.

They came back from down 5-0 and 8-4. Scored three in the seventh and two in the eighth.

The Reds are 5-0 and have won 11 straight exhibition games, dating back to last year.

Jerry Gil went 2-for-3 with a home run, and he played center field and third base.

Josh Hamilton is hitting .562.

I know it's just exhibition but still... 5-0 is pretty sweet. To win it in high drama is even better.

Ahhh, how sweet it is to hear of the "little things".

I'll take a game-winning squeeze over a 450ft. home run ANYDAY!

Josh Hamilton hitting .562!!!! That's awesome - easily the feel good story of the year. All aboard the Josh Hamilton train!

Josh Hamilton will not be a feel-good story for opposing pitchers this year. ZING.

Got home (to Northern Kentucky) last night after spending three days in Sarasota. My son and I saw four games, including the 10 a.m. "B" game on Sunday at Pirate City (there were only a couple dozen people there and we watched the game behind the screen directly behind the catcher, about 20 feet from the action). All I can say is that if you're a baseball fan and you've never been to Spring Training, you owe it to yourself to go once in your life.

Some quick observations:

--The question is not whether Josh Hamilton will stick with the team--the question is how to get him in the lineup every day. He looked phenomenal in every aspect of the game. I know it's early, but it's easy to see that this guy has what it takes to be a star.

--Homer Bailey looked like he still needs some seasoning. Spending the first half of the year in AAA is probably a good idea. We watched him on the back fields and he seemed loose and carefree--in a good way.

--Very impressed with Todd Coffey and Bill Bray--both threw hard and seemed in charge on the mound.

--Don't be wowed by Denorfia's numbers at the plate--he still beats everything into the ground. The fact that those grounders sometimes turn into hits doesn't mean he's ready to knock Bubba Crosby (or anybody else) off the team.

--The report that Weathers threw 28 pitches in one inning at the "B" game doesn't tell the whole story. The ump was squeezing the strike zone and actually drew groans from the dugout (and Weathers) a few times. Stormy looked fine.

Again, there's nothing like baseball in Sarasota in March. Bravo to Fay and Rosecrans for all their updates--it's almost (but not quite) as good as being there.
