Diamondbacks 3, Reds 2

Reds fell 3-2 to the Snakes in what was easily the most frustrating loss of the year for the Reds.

Bronson Arroyo went seven innings, allowing two runs on four hits. He walked two and struck out four. But he was disappointed that he was unable to hold the 2-0 lead the Reds gave him.

“That’s one you hate to see slip away after you've had the lead so long,” Arroyo said. “I weathered the storm twice. But they did what they had to do. They got the guy on base, got him over and got him in.”

The D-Backs ended up winning on Orlando Hudson's two-out, opposite-field home run in the eighth off Kirk Saarloos. After the game, Saarloos said he threw a pitch a bit too fat. "It was 3-2. I didn't want to walk him."

The count was actually 2-1.

“It’s tough to come back from a late-inning home run,” Saarloos said. “We only had three outs left.”

The game ended on a load out from Brandon Phillips with a runner on. Phillips was seething as he left the field. He had to two hits and two walks in his previous four plate appearances. Got like a guy who plays the game with that kind of emotion.

that was a tough one to lose. Not sure what the Reds record is in Arizona, but it seems like they lose a lot of them.

I was in the right field bleachers. The Dbacks fan next to me apoligized after Hudson's homer, cause they all were cheering and I was just sittin'.

Oh well, tomorrow's another day. And I'll be back at the ballpark rottin' for the Reds.

Another case, going back to last year and before, of other teams doing the things you need to do to win close games – moving baserunners and getting them in – while the Reds don't. Hatteburg's DP ball was a fitting virtual end. This game was a bad omen.

Couldnt agree more pskagg...I keep hearing this talk about Manufacturing runs and the the DP. I know baseball is situational and the pitching might have been different but what if Hamilton is on 2nd via a sac bunt when JV hits that single??? They need to take these next two before going to Chicago

This was a tough one to take. The Reds outplayed the D-Backs, but the D-Backs did what they needed to do with the little we gave them. I have to feel for Arroyo...just like last year at times. He pitches well but the rest of the team doesn't do enough to get him the win.

It's easy to question things after the fact, but I question not sending Hamilton on a steal to eliminate the double play ball. Sure, their closer was having trouble finding the strike zone, but all it takes in one pitch...and that's all it took. With the way he was throwing Hamilton could have taken second, Hatteberg could move him over and Javy could make contact to get him in. The D-Backs did that, and we didn't. And that's why we lost.
