It's Opening Night

It's opening night at Chase Field, nee Bank One Ballpark. That meant full introductions. Best part of the pregame was the National Anthem by 6-year-old musical prodigy Geoffrey Gallant. He played it beautifully on the trumpet.

Being in another city for their opener makes you appreciate how big Opening Day is in Cincinnati.

It's the usual lineup against a left-hander: Ryan Freel, Brandon Phillips, Adam Dunn, Edwin Encarnacion, Ken Griffey Jr., Jeff Conine, Alex Gonzalez, David Ross and Bronson Arroyo.

Game time temperature: 81 degrees.

By the way, Jerry Narron acted like he didn't know about Homer Bailey's outing. "What did he do give up one hit or something like that?" Yeah, something like that.

A few things that I have noticed so far this year.

1.Freel is the best utility player in the game, so why try to make him an everyday CF. Let Hamilton sink or swim.

2. Relief pitching has been good but what do you do about roster spots when all are healthy?

3. Coffey seems to have been less effective since last August.

4. John Fay's Hater Squad is 1 for 2 this year. Griffey is heating up, and well, Milton is Milton.

5. Reds are swinging wildly at that letter high fastball.
