Reds Insider From news of the day to news of the weird, John Fay provides a glimpse of what it’s like to cover the Cincinnati Reds
John Fay has been the Reds beat writer for the Enquirer since 2001. Prior to that, he served in a variety of roles for the Enquirer: backup Reds writer, UC beat writer, backup Bengals writer and as a general assignment reporter. He is a Cincinnati native and a graduate of Elder High School and the University of Dayton.
Phil Dumatrait is starting Thursday. I don't why it's him and not Elizardo Ramirez, and I don't why they waited until after Tuesday's game to announce it. But there you have it.
As far as waiting until after the game to announce that Dumatrait will start... who knows. But it's been reported that Ramirez is still having some problems so they're probably going to gradually work him into competition. I wish all you baseball "experts" would realize that AAA success doesn't mean he'll be able to get major league hitters out.
Didn't you say so yourself that EZ's arm was still bothering him from time to time? Why take the chance of putting him in the starting rotation when it's probably more optimal to place him in the bullpen to see how he's handling that. case in point last night.
