The more htings change the more they stay the same.
I thought Narron was fired? This looks like the same lineup (with the exception of Freel). Doesn't Mackanin have any imagination?
What did Narron already have a lineup card filled out and they decided to go on and use it?Shouldn't change come with change?
New coach, and Conine is still a cleanup hitter...
Bobby Valentine is the right man for the Reds job. A passionate, proven winner who is likely longing for another shot in MLB.

Clearly, the new manager does not read the blogs. Conine is not a #4 hitter. In fact, except for the pitcher and Freel, any other player is better in the 4 hole than Conine!!!!
Griffey, Dunn, Phillips, Hamilton, Gonzalez are ok choices for the 4 hole. Hope we don't see this lineup with Conine in the 4 hole very often -- never again. Conine is an ok #6 or #7 batter -- but a guy with 4HR at the midpoint in the season is not your 4 hole hitter.
Interesting that Hamilton is benched tonight -- wonder how that plays out -- given his comments about Narron & his desire for the continued supportive care.
I know I'm probably looking way too much into this, but do you think it's possible that with Freel back, and new "management" that we'll see less and less of Hamilton?
The Giants bat Bonds 4th. The Reds bat Conine 4th. However, the Giants know not to bat Winn - their 5HR guy 4th -- yet, the Reds bat Conine, their 4 HR guy. I am speechless.
Does this new manager plan to continue the strategies of Narron??? Conine IS NOT a #4 hitter!!!!
Stan
I'd be shocked if Castellini or Krivsky or any Reds manager read this blog. They obviously don't really care what the fans think or want, they just want to gratify their own massive egos and fool around. I expect more losing seasons are directly ahead. When I saw Conine in the four spot tonight, I knew that it was meet the new boss, same as the old boss time. Thanks alot, Macknarron!
What's that you were saying, Justin?
When front office folks starting running baseball organizations according to the wishes of bloggers and sports talk radio callers, the business is in real trouble.
It's simply amazing how many folks who have never managed anything even as complicated as a lomonade stand think they know how to manage a baseball team.

Baseball is not rocket science -- however, from the sounds of it -- you would do nothing different than Narron in running this team. Not to get petty - but get real. Anyone who has played any baseball -- I have -- knows that you bat your best power hitters in the 3, 4, and 5 holes. Conine does not fit there.
Anyone who runs a business knows that they need to put a product out that others want. Putting out a losing team and/or ignoring fans (unless you are winning) is not necessarily good business...
Bobby Valentine is such a bad idea....
Bring back the last manager who gave this team a personality... Davey Johnson.
Even Mike Hargrove is better than Valentine.
