Lineup v. Mets, notes

Ken Griffey was a late scratch. He's ill.

Jerry Hairston Jr. 2B
Ryan Freel, RF
Corey Patterson, CF
Joey Votto, 1B
Edwin Encarnacion, 3B
Adam Dunn, LF
Jeff Keppinger, SS
Paul Bako, C
Matt Belisle, RHP

v. RH Mike Pelfrey

Brandon Phillips is out because of the bruised calf. He's available to pinch-hit with two outs, so he doesn't have to run too much. Dusty Baker hopes to have him back the next two days with the Reds facing left-handers Johan Santana and Oliver Perez. Phillips is hitting .452 off lefties, second in the league.

One of the reasons, Edinson Volquez went seven innings and 118 pitches Wednesday was that Kent Mercker wasn't available.

It's still raining here. If the game's banged, they'll play a day-night doubleheader at 1 and 8 tomorrow.

I thought I had a bad travel day. Hal McCoy's was worse. He left at 7. The plane had to turn around and return to Dayton when passengers became ill from fumes. He ended up going through Washington and getting in about 4.

So he left two hours before me and got in a hour after me -- and his luggage didn't make it.

I had one more glitch after the air travel woes. The subway train stopped about two stops from Shea. "We're waiting for police and medical emergency personnel." The delay was about 30 minutes. We ended up talking to Dusty at 5, rather than 3:40.

Then we couldn't get on wireless. I love New York. Hate the hassles and Shea.

I was debating whether or not to watch this game tonight. Belisle pitching had me on the fence. Patterson hitting third makes my decision easy. Prediction: 1.5 hr rain delay, reds lose 7-2.

try to stay positive guys... patterson is not leading off ... lets not focus that the guy with the worst BA is batting in the "RBI/best hitters" spot...

Patterson third? I bet there's 30 posts in the first 10 minutes mentioning this.

The theory tonight from Dusty is he is starting his "Speed" line up. So. with Griffey out sick..he looked down and selected Patterson at .200 with a .260 OBP and 11 RBI's to bat #3. My question is...why is Keppinger batting #7..hitting .292 with a .336 OBP and 16RBI's??? Keppinger could bat 3rd just as well and retain the "Speed" that he wanted at the top of the line up. Patterson should be batting #7 or lower..but batting 3rd is doing nothing except putting more pressure on Patterson especially since he is struggling. You might say..he setting him up to fail.

Patterson batting 3rd? What a joke.

Griffey's ill? Dang, I was hoping he had been traded. Toronto sure made some trades today.

Is this some sort of surprise? We already know Dusty doesn't look at stats. Now that we've moaned about it, he'll hit a few bombs.

The reason Patterson is hitting third is obvious... it's because Dusty isn't allowed to have him bat 1 through 9.

Wait, I've seen this lineup before. Oh right, it was against the Twins in a split squad B game in spring.

I lived in Chicago during the Dusty years. This is another great example why he was run out of town.

- He forces guys like patterson down fans throats under the "he is a vet and deserves a chance to snap out of it" defense. Trust me, Keppinger would be riding pine for Gonzo if he were healthy.

- He gives pitchers a ton of slack. Everybody can see Arroyo didn't have it against the Braves, but Dusty lets him pitch one more batter. Chipper hits a 3 run blast, then goes to take him out after the game is out of reach. He always waits too long hoping a vet pitcher can get himself out of trouble.

- He has no fire when the team is struggling and the "players manager" turns into, no accountability.

- He wears sweat bands for some reason. To me, the most annoying thing of all.

Dusty is just frustrating, end of story.

What will happen first.....

1) Patterson strikes out.
2) Freel gets picked off.
3) Belisle gives up a bomb.

Patterson gets odds cause he is destined to K in the first but Freel does bat before him so there is a chance.

These types of bets make the season interesting.

I see why he is batting third now. I remember when Dusty said back after they picked Patterson up that Patterson was at his best when he didn't try to be a power hitter. He would just hit singles and use his speed to advance.

And right there is why he is batting third. Because to be his best he shouldn't hit for power so put him in a power hitting spot... makes perfect sense.

I am going to the game tomorrow please change the lineup. If I have to watch Patterson bat 3rd I will do the unthinkable and become a Yankee fan.

OK John, jokes over, what was the REAL lineup supposed to be tonight? There is no way any sane person would bat Corey Patterson third. I wouldn't bat him third on my coed softball team.

LEADING FOR DUMBEST POST OF THE DAY....QUOTE:
"MORONS! Obviously Patterson got plugged in at the last minute, that is why he is batting 3rd."

What no eraser on Dusty's pencil or just too lazy to re-arrange the batting order. What a stupid comment.
