Reds win it

The Reds beat the Phillies 8-2. From Volquez to the Reds' bats, it was a good day.

Great day for the Reds--good offense for a change--Jr. gets a HR and Volquez seems like the real deal--I know it is still early, but I feel a lot of optimism for the Reds in the Central!

Votto people, Why did your boy get pulled? Volquez was GREAT!! When I get to work tomorrow, I'm talkin' junk! We got some dominicans pitchin' boy!!

Excellent win.

Don't be surprised if Arroyo pitches a heck of a game tomorrow.

We will need major help at the plate against Hammels. Last year he made our batters look silly. I wouldn't mind us start Hopper in Center field tomorrow against Hammels or perhaps Freel at 3B for EE who is struggling. Just a thought.

Volquez looked good, threw a few too many pitches but overall looked good.

What can you say about Keppinger, the guy just keeps on hitting.

Later fellas and gals.

Lincoln did very good as well, had Hopper not over ran the ball he is looking at a shutout for himself.

JUST GOT BACK FROM THE GAME...

TEAM LOOKS MUCH BETTER SO FAR..I LIKE DUSTYS DECISION MAKING PROCESS

OF NOTE, AFTER THREE GAMES AT THE PARK AND WATCHING BAKER CLOSELY..COMPARED TO CHICAGO WHEN HE WAS LAUGHING AND FOOLING AROUND ALL THE TIME IN THE DUGOUT..THE MAN LOOKS FOCUSED

MY FIRST WEEK SUMMARY..MUCH BETTER ALL AROUND.

GO KEPPINGER

i was at the game today...i know its early but there seemed to be a buzz at the staduim...the 2 youngsters are unbelivable...and when the hitting is there we are unstopable--what do u do with gonzalas when he comes back? our bullpen looks very solid! i dont see why we cant win 90 games!

Man, I have to join you all in being excited about the start we're off to this season!

Great pitching, hitters bashing the ball, the stands packed with fans......Oh, wait. I thought this was a Brewers blog.

I realized it when I mentioned the attendance. Come on, folks. 26,000 on a beautiful, sunny Sunday?

Jeff Keppinger rakes and plays pretty good defense too.

He should be the everyday shortstop.

The pitching has looked much better this year top to bottom. What a difference. I know that the Brewers and Cards are ahead of us or now but the Reds are beating much better teams. This is a BIG step forward for us.

I am most impressed with the fact that they have been beating some pretty good teams in the D-backs and Philly's. It's early, but these wins will help keep the team confident when they come out on the short end three or four games in a row. I'm likin Dusty ball more and more every game. Likin the man!

A fast start was a must with the difficult April/May schedule. If the Reds can come out of that a few games over .500 and (more importantly) near the top of the Central they'll be in great shape.

The schedule will get easier and the younger guys will have gained some confidence.

wow. where are all the haters that waned Corey and Dusty's head on Tuesday?

Sarcasm aside, the Reds got two great young arms in the rotation. If Homer can get it together, this team will have a great staff for years to come.

One criticism though, please let Votto play every day instead of wasting time with the low ceiling Hatteberg. Hatte would be a fine bat off the bench but Votto is the present and future.

Eddy has 7 walks so far...great obp...sure, he's 3/15, but I'm tired of all the talk about replacing him...once a week, maybe...Kepp can start 4 games a week as short, once at 3b and once at 1b against a lefty...pretty much making him an every day player and keeping gozo/Eddy fresh as well...

I'm with you, LRM. Just because things are going well doesn't mean Dusty isn't doing some troubling things. Hatteberg is basically a pinch hitter at this point in his career and Dusty is mistaking him for The Franchise. Votto - who as you recall outproduced Dusty's own best season rates last September - is being wasted. You don't keep yanking a rookie like this; it's just inviting him to press. ("Ooh, gotta go 4-for-4 today or I don't start for another week, let's see, I think I can probably do that...")

Someone needs to tell Dusty that there are actually good baseball players who are younger than 35. Several of them seem to be on this team, too.
