Reds Insider From news of the day to news of the weird, John Fay provides a glimpse of what it’s like to cover the Cincinnati Reds
John Fay has been the Reds beat writer for the Enquirer since 2001. Prior to that, he served in a variety of roles for the Enquirer: backup Reds writer, UC beat writer, backup Bengals writer and as a general assignment reporter. He is a Cincinnati native and a graduate of Elder High School and the University of Dayton.
Let's hope that if Cueto and Volquez both want Soto to stick around, something can be worked out. It's pretty clear that they've developed a pretty good working relationship.
He's got great stuff and lots of movement on that fastball. If he and Cueto can stay consistent, there's no reason that the Reds can't take the central if enough offense stays healthy.
He'll need to get more innings out of 98 pitches, though.
I'll tell you what. If these two dominicans pitch like this most of the year, then this is definately a playoff-bound team. I'm talkin' real contenders for the world series title. On another note, all you people out there crying about votto not starting the season over hatteburg(you know who you are), you did see him get pulled didn't you. Just an observation. PEEEAAACE!!

How's an observation "stupid"? The double-switch was at his expense. I guess you(csa) think he played well up to that point. Maybe they should have did the double-switch with keppinger and put in castro? whew!

Good start. He'll get his control and have even better outings as we go. Reds are playing well on all cylinders today!
Well done Volquez, Affeldt, and Burton. So far so good pitching staff!
Keppinger is sick! He must play everyday, it is non-negotiable!
8 K's in 5 innings - kid's got some stuff!

I'm not missing Josh Hamilton.
Josh Hamilton who?
1 ER and 8 K in 5.1 IP, against the best offense in the National League. And THAT is why you make the trade.

volquez looked great..but we will always miss good old Josh
a stupid observation, I might add. He was pulled for a double switch. No other reason.
