John, is the language barrier btw Cueto and Bako an issue without Castro or Valentin in the game?
What's the word on the game today? With the rain coming will they even get it in? If not what does that do for Cueto's start; will it just get pushed back until tomorrow?
I really don't understand Bako catching Cueto. Cueto doesn't speak a lick of English.
Valentin must have really ticket Dusty off from that 330 foot single the other day and the passed ball.
Glad to see Freel get a start
like this line up (maybe votto @ 1st). patterson is starting to piss me off. he gets one hit and it happens to be a HR and after that it looked like he was swinging for the fences the rest of the time. he better get it together or he's gonna get run out of town. i feel most people in cincy didn't want him to be at spring training or make the team (let alone get paid $3mil this year). put freely or hopper out in CF for a while and let Jay rake in AAA for a lil while and being him up. Also they have to find a place for Keppinger to play on a every day basis, the kid can flat out hit.
How often did Bako catch Cueto in spring training?
I start Valentin simply because of the language barrier (assuming Bako isn't fluent in Spanish).
What's the rationale with the platooning at catcher? Do we have a #1?
Bako with Cueto? I find that to be a little odd, especially since it's the proverbial "day-game-after-night-game".
With Cueto's grasp of the English language, I thought for sure that Valentin would be catching today.
EE could always interpret I suppose during mound visits. But I can imagine it's not the same hearing it directly from your catcher.
Bako caught at least one of Cueto's starts in the spring. Javy was catching the day he didn't get out of the first.
Cueto speaks and undersands English pretty well. He's uncomfortable doing interviews.
He knows enough that I was able to get to tell me that his signing bonus was $3,500.
Bako is catching in this series because the D-Backs like to run.
Relax....Bako is playing against the lefty, simple as that.
Wow...he can't even afford to go to NKU with that signing bonus!
Weather report doesn't look good. But we haven't have a drop and we're 50 minutes from first pitch.
John, do you think if it wasn't for the walk off homer by EE last night, Freel would be starting at third and Hopper in center field? Also, how can a guy like EE work for 5-6 weeks in florida/spring training on fielding machanics and then start the season 2 years in a row looking so bad in the field?
Why Hatteberg? Votto gets a good game in, and you break it up. I just don't understand it.
Bako's not in because it's a lefty. Bako bats left-handed and has a .172 career avg. vs. lefties.
During Fernandomania, (aka the Tom Seaver Cy Young year), Mike Scioscia said that all he said was "Beer, Light Beer, and Food" and Fernando would go get guys out.
maybe a little more complex than that, but it is not like the catchers #1 finger being One or Uno, or the #2 finger being Two or Dos really means that much.
It is baseball. These guys wouldn't have made it this far if they could not communicate.
Edwin Encarnacion understands everything that is said. How is that going for him? Maybe simpler is better, and that Scioscia had the makings of a great manager early on with Fernando. Of course, that was back before the Corona craze...
great game last nite.... go Reds
reagan I sure hope that Gonzo gets well quick ..this Keppinger fellow is stinking up the place my friend
everyone needs to settle down..we have only played 2 games..this team will be better than last year
Bako's not in because it's a lefty. Bako bats left-handed and has a .172 career avg. vs. lefties.
I know, but Valentin can't hit right handed for anything.
I hope he gets back soon also. It is not either/or Jack. Having both Keppinger and Gonzo available makes us a better team.
Keppinger can play about 5 other positions....
love to watch Kepp hit
team was not better with Gonzalez last year..team was ..and is better with keppinger
Yep, Jack, Keppinger did a great job in the 8th inning relief role he had.
Oh wait, Burton may have something to say about the team's success.
Have them both healthy and watch who plays where. The team is better with both.
speaking of success, the Starting Shortstop of a World Series champ means more than 32 RBIs...It just does.
Valentin hits better with no hands than Bako can hit. Valentin hit well RH before idiots like Narron decided that he couldn't and didn't give him any RH ABs.
