Dusty is clever. He knew it would be postponed and threw Patterson into the 3 hole just to get bloggers fired up.

John, who was supposed to pitch tomorrow if tonight's game was played, Arroyo? Why not adjust the rotation and start Edison so the Reds don't have their two weakest pitchers going who are more or less guaranteed losses? It makes for a lost series unless we get lucky and catch Santana on a rare off day.

Also, John, since you have tonight off if you're looking for a great place for dinner, Tratoria Del Arte on 7th and 52nd across from Carnegie Hall. Great food and lots of stars there.

Phillips and Griffey will both play at least one game.

Volquez is scheduled to pitch until Tuesday. Not a good idea to pitch him on two days' rest.

My bad, I thought he went the 1st game of the Cubs series, but it was Cueto right? Why not start him then?

at 9:08 PM Blogger John Fay said...

Got get the kids their normal rest. They're going to pitch more innings than they ever have.

John,

Uncle Jacks Steakhouse . . . if you go to the one on 34th make sure Bobby serves you a coldy. Try the kobe filet . . . out of this world.

Cheers.

has anyone heard how long Dusty and Walt plan on letting Bronson stink up the joint....kinda hard to win when your Ace gets no run support and your other 2 "veterans" are BP pitchers

I don't know about other Reds fans, but I'd be extremely surprised if the Reds won this series. In fact, I feel like the Reds are going to get swept! I hope my pessimistic feelings don't come true.

Belisle vs Santana. Would hate to see the vegas lines on this one.

Postponed! What a break.

Jorge Cantu played tonight though, 2 more hits and 2 more rbis. What a bargain for Florida.

I think they should move bronson to the bullpen, ala Red Sox, bring up bailey and lehr and start giving the young guys extra rest. Get rid of patterson and one of the catchers.

Cantu and Hamilton each had 2 hits last night..Cantu had 2 more RBIs

Texas is closing in on .500

I am glad to see Josh doing well and his team improving. Hopefully we will see the same here soon

How can we be so lucky today? Belisle in the afternoon, Arroyo in the evening! This could be ugly, really ugly if either of the, or God forbid, both of them can't go at least 5 innings. Hopefully, one of them will go 7 strong so the bullpen is not totally wrecked. Good thing Fogg is around today.

It is puzzling that Patterson, batting .200, was scheduled to bat in the 3 hole last time, when Patterson has never had a year justifying batting in the 3 spot. Reminds me of the fascination with Conine last year, who is currently out of baseball... I like Patterson better than Conine, but Patterson is a bottom of the order hitter....

Of course, the Reds normal 3 hitter, Griffey, from 2000-2007, has been a .272 hitter for the Reds somewhat explaining why the team has been so inconsistent offensively. With this year's .244 average, he is bit lower for the Reds overall.

Responding to Baker's comment that no one is making a big deal about Griffey getting to 600, I believe that is because the Reds stink, and because over the past 7 years Griffey has done nothing to distinguish himself as a baseball player. In my opinion, he is not even in the top 20 outfielders currently playing in baseball, currently playing, so at this point -- who cares. Since 2000, or 8+ seasons, he has hit 198 homeruns, while batting .272 -- hardly a staggering number for an outfielder paid around 10 million dollars a year.

Much is made of Griffey taking less than market value when he came to Cinci in 2000; however, any objective observer, based upon his actual production, would say that he has been grossly overpaid in Cinci... Griffey needs to go to Seattle or somewhere...

Bruce needs to come up here.

Looking on the bright side. I'll only be in a bad mood one day this week seeing that Arroyo and Belisle is pitching on the same day and all.

John can we put a moratorium on this cantu updates. Its only slightly juvenile and getting old. The adults here would like to talk baseball.

I've read enough Cantu, Hamilton, Keppinger v. Gonzalez posts for a lifetime.

But that's just me.

Theres a lot of players out there that are making more money than griffey and have put up less numbers. The guy took a discount to play for this team. You may not care for him as a ball player and thats ok, but show a little respect.

we have seen enough bloggers pretending to be baseball managers posting lineups everyday..very immature

John do you have any idea how many different lineups have been used the last three years?

Griffey has been a waste of over a 100 million dollars for this franchise..aside from one or two somewhat decent years..the guy has been an often injured marginal player

If that isnt the kettle calling the pot black.

Griffey has been a disapointment but I wouldnt go as far as a waste. Boy your hindsight sure is 20/20, I wish I had that kind of vision. How would you feel if the reds pulled a move like the toronto did with Frank Thomas. Now that was a waste of money.

A lot more than anything I've seen you post all year.

Perhaps I'm mistaken, but my recollection of the Cantu discussion is that a few people complained that the organization was foolish to let him go (a perfectly valid complaint), and a few other people decided they just HAD to argue about it, which is why we're now getting the daily Cantu updates. There's a very strong tendency in this forum to argue with virtually everything anyone says, no matter how insignificant (or correct) it may be, and then turn around and complain that the topic won't just go away.

When I first started complaining about Baker's managing abilities, a bunch of people immediately jumped on me and acted as if I was out of my mind to question him. ("How many teams have YOU managed," I was asked.) It was the classic knee-jerk reaction a lot of people seem to display, in which the first instinct is to argue with someone no matter how right they may be. If people would cut that out, I'm sure a lot of the Cantu-type posts would cease to exist.

Incidentally, when was the last time Alou made an out against the Reds? He doesn't hit as many HRs as Hall or Berkman, but I think he actually has a much higher OBP against the Reds than either of those guys. I'm guessing it's pretty close to .700 over the past 10 years.

at 2:07 PM Blogger JackBlueAsh said...

The signing of Ken Griffey financially crippled this franchise and will go down as one of the worst signings ever

His 12 million a year still is problematic

Posting lineups is fine. What is immature is continued updates of former Reds and continued bashing of Griffey and Dunn. If you don’t understand the game enough to talk about anything else, then please find another blog.
