Sad note, minor matters

Third base coach Mark Berry's father, Harvey, died Saturday in Glendale, Ariz. My thoughts and prayers are with the Mark nd family.

From Jamie Ramsey:

All 4 of the active Reds farm clubs are over .500
Louisville and Dayton were rained out yesterday…The Bats are playing a doubleheader today…Chattanooga falls to Carolina…the Lookouts were victimized by a 9th inning walkoff homer…Ramon Ramirez with another quality start (6ip, 8h, 3r, 0bb, 7k, 2hr)…Robert Manuel keeps putting up zeroes out of the Chattanooga bullpen…Cody Strait and Tonys Gutierrez are swinging hot bats…The SaraReds had Mother’s Day off...The Dragons tonight are in Lansing (capital of Michigan) to play their first road game of the month.

Since the Bats were rained out yesterday they are playing two today, Maloney had a no-hitter through six but gave up two hits in top of seventh and won the seven innning game 7-0 with 116 pitches. Bruce had a 4-4 day plus a homer and is now hitting around .350, already has a hit in second game.

I don't usually get in on this discussion because it's tired but I really believe it's time for Bruce. If Jocketty can't trade Freel, then he's not a good enough GM. He doesn't have to get much. He just has to get it done. Patterson is not producing. It would not be rushing Bruce to bring him up now. He will put up numbers like Votto, have some slow patches, but some exciting streaks. It will change the dynamic of the team. Let the team be what it is - a power-laden lineup without an ideal leadoff hitter. You can wait a year for a leadoff hitter to emerge or come from a signing. It's time to play the best 8 and do some damage offensively. I think Bruce might even inspire Griffey.

Nice to see Maloney is coming around. Hopefully, he will be steady for a while. Pretty impressive run by Manuel. Dickerson and Rosales have shown some life after bad Aprils too.

There are some obivious things that should help the Reds...

Bring Phillips up and trade/release Hatteberg. I hate to release Hatteberg but Phillips is a good player.

Get Bailey or Shearn up to replace Belisle.

Bring up Bruce and release Patterson.

It might just be me but those would balance out the team to win more now. Then worry about trading Junior/Dunn next month. they won't the World Series with these moves but the team would be better for it.

Bruce can't be denied too much longer. I just don't see how they can keep the kid in AAA too much longer

I love these minor league updates. A lot quicker information than the Bats and Lookout sites. I am glad to see

Majewski getting it turned around. Maybe he is healthy again. I think the guy has some ability we have not seen yet.

Herrera - He was part of the Hamilton for Volquez trade? Icing!

Not a huge move but shouldn't majewski be coming up soon? When healthy is well established as a quality bullpen guy. I saw him in Norfolk and he was in the 93 range with his fastball so he would seem to be throwing as well as ever. Gotta be some lesser lights in the bullpen he could replace.

Majewski is never going to be seen in a Reds uniform again. There's no reason to bring him up when there are so many more deserving, like Roenicke or Manuel or even Tom Shearn.

I would send Cueto down before Belisle. Cueto needs it more. He's rapidly proving he is not Major League ready. He needs more time at AAA and he needs to work with a better coach before Dick Pole totally screws up his game. And I think it's a valid point that he needs to learn to do what his catcher tells him to
