The Mayor

Former Reds first baseman Sean Casey was elated to see Cincinnati scribes today in the Red Sox clubhouse. Casey, who signed a one-year, $800,000 deal with the team in February, said he's been settling in great.

"I knew a lot of the guys, just playing against them and stuff," Casey said. "The one thing about this place, they make you feel real welcome right away. I think that’s one of the coolest things. These guys won the World Series last year and they decided to bring me in...They’ve been awesome."

But, he said, he'll always feel like a Red. After spending eight years with the club, he said the story of his career will be with Cincinnati.

"Because I"m not going to play eight more," he said laughing.

Casey dished on his kids and said he's taking his son, Andrew, and wife to the Red Sox' March 21 exhibition game in Tokyo.

Casey said he didn't recognize many familiar faces among Reds today, what with guys like Griffey and Dunn not making the trip. He asked about Ryan Freel, among others.

He said he wouldn't be opposed to coming back to Cincinnati. But they have Hatteberg and Votto in the mix, he said, and "it's a good thing."

Casey said he's excited to play in Cincinnati June 13. Good guy, just like his reputation indicates.

So, been hearing a lot about Homer's 'tude lately, could all just be speculation based on the comments in your article from last week,, not sure.

Just wondering, how is he with his teammates? Is the attitude reserved for the press, or is he a bit stand-offish in the clubhouse as well?

With Mr. Casey you never had to worry about your son wearing his uniform.

Wish there were more players with their heads on right like Casey. Hope he has a good year with the Sox.

Miss The Mayor in a Reds uniform. Have since he left.

Good to hear those comments from Sean.

Class act. With a little more upper body strength, he could have been a flat out terror at the plate.

Hey John,

Care to comment on Casey's potential as a coach/future manager? That'd be one way he could make his way back to the Reds.
