Reds 7, Indians 4 (it's over)

The Reds beat the Cleveland Indians 7-4 in 4 1/2 innings Tuesday. The game was delayed by heavily rain after the top of the fifth. It was called shortly threafter becasue of thunderstorms in the forecast.

Matt Belisle gave up three runs in the second. Two-run double Andy Marte, RBI double from Aaron Herr, formerly of the Louisville Bats.

The Reds scored five in the second. Adam Dunn and Edwin Ecarnacion walked. Joey Votto nicely dropped a single into to score Dunn. Paul Bako walked. Jolbert Cabrera doubled in two runs. Ryan Freel singled in two more but was out here-to-there trying to go to second.

Line on Belisle: 2 IP, 3 hits, 3 earned runs.

Josh Fogg followed Belisle and gave up a home run to the first batter he faced. That was all he would allow in three innings.

The Reds scored two in the fourth off Jeremy Sowers without hitting ball to the outfield on a fly: Bako infield hit, Hopper infield hit, Paul Janish grounded through the middle, Drew Anderson infield hit.

I'm reposting on the latest thread:

John, I'm a bit confused. Is this an MLB decision? You mentioned a blogger was stripped of his credentials for blogging an NCAA game. So, is this an FCC decision, or did all the sports industries get together to decide this? I'm just trying to figure out who to send an angry letter to.

I'm not sure about the live blogging part, but came across this article about new MLB restrictions causing concern among paper editors. http://www.editorandpublisher.com/eandp/news/article_display.jsp?vnu_content_id=1003718643

John, Can you tell us any more about Belisle's shaky second inning? Would like to know how he got himself into trouble and how he responded. Thank you sir.

more genius actions by the baseball powers that be.

same folks who black out Washington Nats games for me in Wilmington, NC, since I am clearly in the local area... just 400 or 500 miles away, right around the corner...

Hey Anon 2:11, I could not agree with you more about how stupid the whole thing is. I tried to subscribe to the MLB.tv package to watch the Reds over the Internet while at work and was blacked out for being in their area. I live close to 3 hrs away from Cincy, having the ability to watch the game at the office has absolutely no bearing on whether or not I go to a game or not. For me to make a game it's an all day afair. We make some but not a lot just because we can't burn up entire days for one game that often. I also can watch the games at home on my cable so I guess I'll just give Slingbox my money so I can slingbox the game from home to my office computer instead of paying MLB for the video feed. Are they this stupid to not realize they are losing out on potential revenue this way?

THIS INNING BY INNING THING OF EVERY PRE SEASON GAME IS RIDICULOUS

Well at least there is a small way around it. Since all the leagues are greedy pigs you can't get any information during the games now. Or listen on the radio without paying for it. I love the Reds, but miss most of their games living in Atlanta. I remember when WLW went dark online.

As a college baseball fan too I am stuck with the same issues. Pay or be ignorant.

To listen to all my teams now, because of the signing of exclusive rights contracts, I would have to have both XM (Reds, SEC sports) and Sirius (Bengals). Even after conceding the Reds and getting Sirius I got screwed because the SEC switched last year. Not that anyone cares, but it just illustrates the consumer-screwing greed of these people that the MLB and all leagues promote.

John -- maybe after a pitcher leaves the game you could just grade his performance (A-F)? A lot of time, the numbers don't tell the story. Thanks :)

So anyone else love how Bruce flat up told Baker he hasn't had leg problems. I think he feels like everyone else does and that Baker isn't going to give him a fair chance and is looking for any reason to send him out. Thank God Bruce isn't going down without a fight.

Who is making the decisions on broadcasting rights for MLB ... A Chimp?

These are the same geniuses that black out Reds Games on the MLB package for those of use who live in Charlotte, NC ... 7+ hours away! Thanks MLB & Time Warner

Well, i actually paid the $14.99 so i could listen at work. But there's no coverage. . . so maybe if all promise that we've paid, you could live blog? Seriously, its not even on MLB.com today. . . so wtf?

Being stuck in the frozen waste land called SD I've grown used to being in the dark ages during spring when it comes to Reds baseball. To fill in the gap with the absence of decent highlights from ESPN or Fox Sports these days I've turned to blogs, John and Trent to get as much tidbits of info that I can. I agree it stinks that MLB locks us out like they do. I look forward to opening day when my Direct TV baseball package kicks in. I'd even be willing to pay for a spring game package if it was so offered as long as it was reasonable. I feel it should be included in the regular season package though.

John,

Happen to catch the headlines made by Jesse Levis this week?

at 3:08 PM Anonymous Anonymous said...

Does it bother anyone else that Hairston was mentioned in the Mitchell report? Do we really need this type guy? Perhaps he should go to the Cardinals where he'd be welcomed with open arms by LaRussa. They could have a big party with JuanGon, Glaus, Ankiel, Franklin, etc.

I have never liked Baker and he has only done well because he has inherited something. What happened to the Cubs under him long term. Why did we not get Frank Robinson? Am I crazy to think this I thought he did a decent job as manager plus the Reds connection. At least he actually cared about all the players not just the ones that can still stand to talk to him after playing with him.

Not familiar with Jesse Levi John? What has he contributed?

at 3:36 PM Anonymous Anonymous said...

I'd have preferred Girardi but it was clear the Evil Empire was going to outbid the Reds on that one to get him. I'm equally as satisfied with Baker. I'm inclined to take a wait and see approach with him but until then I think he's getting a bad rap. After a decade of losing Reds fans aren't as patient as they could be.

Red Faced: you should read CTR's "Live" take on the game. it is hysterical.

sounds like Freel had a couple go over his head: one was scorched and another "it bounced over Ryan Freel's head and was ruled a double"

We need that to be our strategy have a lead after 5 make it rain and then stop the game so our bullpen dont have to pitch.

at 5:55 PM Anonymous Anonymous said...

reaganspad, thanks for the info. I actually checked his blog after my initial post to keep tabs on things. And yes, I enjoyed it thoroughly. I'll be sure to check it out during the other games that MLB audio does not have for us, heck and maybe I'll check it out even when they do.

How about trading Freel and Keppinger for Sanchez of the Giants? Keppinger is the next Schmidt. That's what you guys and gals are saying about Keppinger playing every day. The Reds needs more starting pitchers and less bench players. Lowery couldn't hit the home plate yesterday, Steve Blass theory. Any comments?

at 7:39 PM Anonymous Anonymous said...

Look at Schimdt's salary compared to Keppinger's. Do you really see the Reds adding that kind of payroll? Also the Giants don't make that deal without one of our big time prospects. Keppinger and Freel wouldn't be enough.

at 11:21 PM Anonymous Anonymous said...

No one ever said Keppinger was Schmidt. But trading Keppinger and keeping tubby concrete-shoes Gonzo would be a mistake.

What are the possibilities of moving Bruce to either left or right field and trading Dunn and/or Griffey?
