Thats' fairly close to lineup you'll see on Opening Day. David Ross not Bako will catching, of course. And you could have Norris Hopper, Corey Patterson or Jay Bruce in center. But it gives you an idea of Dusty Baker is thinking.

Schedule:

Do you expect the first cuts to come after the split squad game?

Any word on how Beslile is pitching? With the competition is he really penciled in as a starter?

You know, the guy won 8 games last year in 177 innings, and learned a bunch about getting out of the big inning. He didn't get it done all the time, but he did take the no hitter into the 7th so we are not talking about Jimmy Haynes here.
I would imagine like Affeldt working on his change up, that Belisle would be working on his stretch/holding runners this spring.
As great of arms as the youngins have, they probably have the same kind of learning curve. We saw that with Bailey last year.
Not that he doesn't have to improve, with the arms we now have, Belisle will need 200 innings at 4.5 to be the 3rd starter this year. That would win about 12-14 games.

Beloser certainly had plenty of experience giving up the big inning last year. Remember the game vs. the Phils when he gave up 2 bombs to Utley on 0-2 fastballs? Brantley about crapped his pants in the booth on the second one.

The guy seems to have decent stuff, and I do remember a dominant outing early in the year vs the Cubbies. But he's gonna have to prove it to me - he's been around a couple or 3 years now with absolutely no sustained success. I wonder how long the leash is on him if he stats out shaky in April/May.

And you are someone that it really matters whether Belisle PROVES it to you? Like are you the big decision maker in the sky?

I keep hearing about the "great young arms" we have. Perhaps bloggers should post the great young arms THEY THINK we have. Big difference

Bailey still has a great deal to learn..his curve aint up..And if he does not get better command of his pitches he will never be a very good pitcher

As of yet, there is no evidence whatsoever that any of those young arms are great or for fact.. even very good

Once again, a very quick sampling of Homer Bailey's scouting report;

mvn.com;

He's the epitome of a pure projection pitcher. He has plus stuff with a good breaking ball, and he even has a little change-piece now.

baseball america;

His mid-90s heat is nasty, especially when combined with his tremendous curveball. Works well low in the zone.

There are about 1,000 more readily accessible quotes from MLB scouts, GM's, and such that refute your take on Homer Baileys curve ball and lack of command.

I question your opinion and expertise, specifically because it goes against what everyone else says about him.

As far as that goes, you're also 180 degree's out in what you're saying about our "great young arms" (Cueto, Volquez, Maloney, Roenicke...etc)than what the scouts say also.

Would you care to tell what you are basing your opinion on and where you get your "expertise" that is so much more correct than MLB qualified scouts, GM's, managers...etc?

yet another instance where two opinions can both be right at the same time, but be coming from different directions.

the creepy jack guy says..."As of yet, there is no evidence whatsoever that any of those young arms are great or for fact.. even very good"

the caveat that makes this true is if you are looking at the young pups from a major league perfomance stand point, which in the big picture is what counts.
granted, only baily and volquez have any big league experience and, while in limited time, the results have been at best mixed. no one disputes that they have "great arms", as shown by jdeezman's scouting reports.

+1 creepy jack
+1 jdeezman

maturity will do these youngsters wonders. its up to the powers that be (management) to deem whether or not the atmosphere in which this maturing takes place will be most beneficial for the BIG LEAGUE CLUB in cincy or at the 'ville.

Yes, yes they need to prove it in the Bigs. How do you disagree with that? You have to throw it, catch it and hit it also.

Question back to you, is would you rather have our young (and yes unproven arms) or last years team of Dumatrait, Milton, Ramirez and Saarloos?

You don't have to prove a lot to be better than the performance we got from them. Nice of Wayne to upgrade the roster for us.

Nice also that they do not have to be rushed, but can win the position based on their great performance.

Hate the Cubs
